Joanna Geckeler

Joanna Catherine Geckeler, age 92, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Mill Run Gardens and Care Center. Joanna was born on September 6, 1918 in Lewisburg, OH; she was the daughter of the late Waldo and M. Irene Grushon. Joanna was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, John E. Geckeler; and brother-in-law, Lee Geckler. She is survived by her devoted sons, Jack “Chip” (Cheryl) Geckeler of Westerville, OH and Douglas (Marilyn) Geckeler of Upper Arlington, OH; grandsons, Mark (Katie) Geckeler and Brian Geckeler; great grandson, Beau; sister-in-law, Jean Geckeler; niece, Susan (Terry) Finegan; and great nephews, Devin and Sean. She was a longtime member of Parkview United Methodist Church, where she was active in the women’s circle. Joanna was an employee at Lazarus Department Stores for many years and did many Farberware Cooking Demonstrations. Joanna was an avid cook and quilter, belonging to the Golden Hobby Shop Quilt Club. Her true joy and passion was her family and was a proud grandma to her 2 grandsons. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her love to laugh and bright and cheerful personality. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 11am-1pm with funeral services starting at 1pm at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221.
