John W. Black, age 83 of Columbus, formerly of Wintersville, OH, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 3, 2013 after an extended illness. John was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lillian Black, brothers, William, Charles, Ellis and Robert; sisters, Mary Sinfield and Patricia Black. John was born in Byesville, OH and grew up in Hopedale, OH graduating from Hopedale High School. He was a kind, soft spoken and hardworking man. John worked for 41 years as a coal shovel and drag line operator. A 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Unionport Lodge F&AM #333, John enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending winters in Ft. Myers, FL after his retirement. But most of all, John loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan (Trushel) Black; children, John (Susan Byal) Black, Judy (Jeff) Grimm, Joyce (Troy) Gigis and Jennifer (Doug) Sawyer, grandchildren, Julie (Scott) Klarkowski, Jeremy Black, Justin Grimm, Sarah (Shawn) Paynter, Kenzie McGuire, Austen, Will and Nick Sawyer, Julia and Laurel Gigis, 6 great grandchildren and many other family members and dear friends. Special thanks to Dr. Raul Hernandez, Dr. Tejvir Chadha, and Dr. Kwang Suh for their compassion and care during his life. A memorial service will be held August 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Enchanted Acres Community Center, 4460 Janice Marie Blvd, Columbus. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL.
