

John Blanda passed away unexpectedly on September 28, 2017 at his home. He was born February 8, 1934 in Youngwood, PA; the son of Mary and Michael Blanda. He was predeceased by his parents, 6 brothers, 4 sisters, 3 nieces and1 nephew. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Emily. She was his college sweetheart and his true love. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Youngwood High School, received an Accounting degree from the College of Steubenville, a Juris Doctorate degree from Capital University and an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Franciscan University in Steubenville; where he and Emily were members of the President’s Circle. John was selected as both an individual and team member of the basketball Hall of Fame. John served his country proudly in the Army for 2 years while deployed in France. He was a member of St. Andrew Parish. John was treasurer of both the Ballet Met Board and the NCALLS Board in Chicago. He also received his CPA certification in Ohio. The major part of John’s career was with the Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus as Chief Financial Officer/VP. His greatest memories include the 30 years of the Blanda Brother Golf and Pinochle Reunions he hosted in Columbus. In addition their yearly family vacations to Europe, spending time in March in Naples, FL, and summertime along the beaches of South Carolina. He and Emily love sports, movies, theater and Friday night dates. They also enjoyed playing tennis and golf with friends. He will be extremely missed by his wife, family and friends. He was simply the greatest guy. At John’s request a private family Mass will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the family plot in New Cumberland, W. VA.
