

John Rutledge Ervin, age 94, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014. He was born on March 26, 1920 in Shinnston, WV to the late Dr. Dana R. and Ethel C. Ervin. John served proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a teacher and Head of the Commercial Department at Clay County High School, where he also taught typing and shorthand. John then became Secretary of the College of Commerce at The Ohio State University, as well as an instructor in Economics. He was a former member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Delta Sigma, Pi, American Statistical Assoc., OSU Insurance Society, OSU Alumni Assoc., and long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He belonged to all the bodies of Masonic Temple including the Shrine. John loved sports, especially OSU Football, which he was a season ticket holder for many years. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy M. Ervin; and second wife, Oma V. Flinn; siblings, Martha Davis and Joseph R. Ervin. He is survived by his dear sister, Mary Moffitt; and loving nephew, Wesley and his wife, Joan Broseke of Kenton, OH. A Graveside Service for John will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, OH. Rev. Phillip Brooks officiating.
