

John L. Handley, age 87 of Hide-A-Way Hills, OH died Monday, February 11, 2013 at Main Street Terrace in Lancaster, OH. John was born on October 18, 1925, the son of Ada (Williamson) and Cecil Worth Handley. John was a graduate of Ashland University and The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He was a retired Optometrist and Teacher. John taught in the Columbus City Schools at Woodward Park and Everett Middle Schools and Centennial High School. He also served at a foster parent for Franklin County Childrens Services. He is preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law Eileen and Howard Plocher. John is survived by his wife Margaret Knies Handley; children Marguerite (Stephen) Goodwin, April Corey, Brenda Kay Franks, Elsa Whiteis, Stephen Grill, Kathy Allman, Phillip Whiteis and Debra Gayheart; grandchildren David (Jennifer Hunter) Goodwin, John Richie Goodwin, Grant Severt, Jonathan Rodock, Elizabeth Rodock, Gretcen Yerian, Hannah Yerian, Jason Whiteis, Josephine Whiteis, Joshua Whiteis, Anna Gayheart, and Paul Grill; great grandchildren Joshua Goodwin and Caleigh Goodwin; and brother James (Cynthia) Handley. The family will receive friends from 6-7pm on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Schoedinger Midtown Chapel, 229 E. State St. where a memorial service will begin at 7:00 pm with Rev. Gregory Schmalfeldt officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to one’s favorite charity in John’s memory.
