

John Edward Jones, age 82, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011, in Davenport, Fla. He was born in Columbus on July 29, 1928, to Thomas A. and Wanda (Oldenburg) Jones. On June 20, 1950, he married his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen Irene Theado, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Cynthia (Richard) Cunningham of Warsaw, Ohio, Jack (Debbie) Jones of Gahanna, Ohio, and Terry (Todd) Shroyer of West Lafayette, Ohio; grandchildren, Scott (Darla) Terrell, John Joseph (Dee) Terrell, Brian (Emily) Jones, Shelly (Todd) Bennett, Nicole (Jay) Singh, Benjamin (Isabel) Jones, Kevin (Amber) Cichon, Michael Cichon, and Christina (Jared) Bordenkircher; great grandchildren, Ryan, Amy, and Jodee Terrell, Harrison, Henry, and Loreli Jones, Kayla and Allison Bennett, Samuel Jennings, Surabhi Singh, and Anthony Cichon; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Ralph) Price, Manuel and Roberto Thaler, Adam Shaffer, and Steven and Matthew Shroyer; step-great granddaughters, Abby and Erin Price; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Jones of Hilliard; sisters-in-law, Martha Jones of Vista, Calif., and Beverly Jones of Columbus; and beloved dog, Chrissy. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, David L. Jones and Sherry L. Jones; and brothers, Thomas A. Jones, Sr., and George Theodore Jones. John was a graduate of West High School and attended The Ohio State University. As a small boy, he sang with his brothers on stage and radio, and they were known as the “Jones Boys.” He was also a member of the Columbus Boys Choir and Press Club of Ohio. John served our country in the US Marine Corp from 1946-1952 and was a Drill Sergeant. As a young man, he formed the Westside Democrat Club. He served as Deputy Public Service Director for Mayor M.E. Sensenbrenner, as well as Franklin County Democratic Party Chairman. He was a Columbus City Councilman, and also served as Executive Director of the Ohio Democratic Party. From 1973-1979, he sat on the Ohio Unemployment Compensation Board, and in 1985, he retired from politics. He had advised every Mayor for nearly 60 years and political leaders at every level. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna.
