

John William “Bill” McCabe, age 82, passed away, Monday, November 5, 2018 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He was born February 6, 1936 to the late John William and Mildred (Stout) McCabe in Columbus, Ohio. Bill was a graduate of Columbus North High School. Bill began his career as an automotive repair technician with Kreiger Ford for several years. He then retired from Columbus Public Schools having taught automotive repair at Linden McKinley, Briggs and Northland High Schools retiring after over 20 years. He enjoyed travelling the country with family and was an avid tennis player. He was a devoted volunteer to the school activities and sports programs coaching swimming and tennis to his children and students at Linden McKinley, respectively. Bill was a devoted family man and became a father figure to many of the neighborhood children. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Frances Elizabeth McCabe and a daughter, Christine “Tina” McCabe. Bill is survived by his beloved daughters, Candace “Candy” (Thomas Jantvold) Daniel and Angela “Angel” (Alan Hartley) Matney; grandchildren, Jimmy and Branden (Michaela Stover) Matney and a soon to be great grandson, Jack Douglas, Heather (Kyle) Smith and a soon to be great grandson Charley David, Jennifer Elizabeth (Jon) Rood and great-granddaughter Grace Elizabeth Rood, Douglas Knierim, Brittney (Jeff) Black and James Thomas (Erica) Snyder and great grandson Hudson; brothers, J. Daniel “Dan”(Mary Lou) McCabe and Richard “Dic” (Sarah) McCabe; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Vivian) Moyer and William “Bill” Moyer; nieces and nephews, Phillip (Tawny) Moyer, Spencer (Tricia) Moyer, Valorie Moyer Friedsam, Tomi Miller, Joseph (Vicki) McCabe, Molly (Steve) Boysel, Matt (A.J.) McCabe, Josh McCabe, Jeannie (Gregg Montgomery)McCabe, Michael (Elaine) McCabe, Colleen (David) Brown, Elaine (Steve) Statti and James (Laura) McCabe; special friends, Jim and Mary Crisswell, Joy Hale, Randy Maynard, Donald Yontz, longtime friend Bill Lawson and tennis partner, Charley Weisant. Family will receive friends Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 11:00 am -1:00 pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road, where memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Private family interment at a later date in Millwood, Ohio.
