John Nesbitt Merritt

John Nesbitt Merritt, 89, loving husband and father, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 21, 1930 in St. Clairsville, Ohio to the James and Marjorie (Lee) Merritt. He was a 1948 graduate of St. Clairsville H.S. and a proud U.S. Navy veteran. He was a retired Carpenter, Realtor, and Farmer. John enjoyed travelling and taking long distance drives. Member of the Grove City Evening Lions Club, Loyal Order of the Moose, and B.P.O. Elks. John also loved Ohio State Football and enjoyed going to their games. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Bob, Helene, and J.B. John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Peggy; Sandra (William) Guerard, Donald Wayne Merritt; Patricia Ann (Mark) Leidecker, Thomas Owen Merritt; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandsons; siblings, Bill Merritt, Lois Barr, and Dick Merritt; and many other relatives and friends. Due to the current restrictions, a Private Visitation and Graveside Service will be held at Galloway Cemetery. A Public Visitation and Celebration of Life Service will be celebrated later when conditions allow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The James Cancer Hospital.
