

John L. Russell, Sr., of Columbus, age 84, died peacefully at his son's home on June 26, 2017 with his son at his side after a long illness. He could not wait to be reunited with his true love, Joanne of 58 years, in heaven. Preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Opal Russell; and sister, Pauline Gibson. He is survived by his devoted son, John Jr. of Columbus; daughter, Gilva Crisp; and son, Mark Russell; grandsons, Robert and John Crisp; great-grandsons, Charles Allen Crisp, Cecil James Kozuh, and Tyler Crisp; longtime friend, Gary Reynolds; his beloved dog, Jack; sister in-law, Sandi (Bill) Slattery of Massillon, Ohio; sister in-law, Donna (Bob) Belt of Grove City, Ohio; aunt, Eula Hunt of Port Charlotte, Florida; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Retired from CSX (C/O) Railroad after 44 years of loyal service. He was a member of The Bill Moose Muzzle Loading Gun Club, Columbus Muzzle Loading Gun Club, and a member of The Buckeye Leathercrafters of Central Ohio. A special heartfelt thanks to Bobbi and Beth from OhioHealth Hospice, truly two angels on earth, Mike and Mike from Bella Care Hospice. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00PM-4:00PM and 6:00PM-8:00PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at HOPE and HEART BY SCHOEDINGER, 3030 West Broad St., Columbus, Ohio where funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 10:00AM. Pastor Danny Dahl officiating. Interment to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
