

John Charles Thomas, age 81, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on November 22, 1934, to William and Myrta Belle (Jones) Thomas, in Columbus, Ohio. John attended Columbus West and Grove City High Schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy and became a signalman where he served on the U.S.S. Salem, to which he continued his dedication by helping maintain the ship in later years. He began a career at the Ohio Bell Telephone Company (ATandT) and retired after more than 38 years as an engineer. He volunteered his time as a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He coached Holly Hill little league football and baseball, and he loved the game of golf. John was a dedicated Christian and a long-time member of Westgate UMC where he married his wife, Sue, in 1955. In retirement, they spent their winter seasons, for over 20 years, in Pine Island, Florida, their second home. John is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bill Thomas and Glen Thomas; sister Ruth Scales; and sister-in-law Judy Adkins. John is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Sue Thomas; sons, Ron Thomas and Dale (Kim) Thomas; daughter Stacey Thomas (Trent Bishop); grandchildren Daniela Thomas, Dylan and Paige Stroud and great-grandchildren; brother Alan (Sandy) Thomas and brother-in-law Frank Adkins. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Thank you to the aides and staff of Carriage Court of Hilliard who affectionately cared for him in the last two months. A special and heartfelt thank you to Tridia Hospice who went above and beyond to comfort, not only John in his last days, but the family as well.
