

He was born to the late Andrew and Eleanor Hawkins on October 29th , 1943, In Christiansburg ,VA. Joseph graduated from Christiansburg High School and
joined the Army Reserves and then went on to receive his Bachelors of Science in computer science. He continued to further his education and received his Associates Of Art's in Mechanical engineering and Electrical Engineering technology. In 2001, he earned his Masters in Business Administration. Shortly after in 2011, he completed numerous electrical engineering courses such as Intro to Short Circuit Analysis, Power Systems Analysis, Short Circuit Analysis Using Symmetrical Components, and Calculating Currents in Balanced and Unbalanced 3-Phase Circuits.
Joseph was passionate about computer science, engineering, telecommunications, literacy and making a difference in the lives of those who he touched so dearly. He was a Senior level telecommunications professional with over 20 years experience in virtually all aspects of management, engineering and operation. Joseph's goal was to use his skills and education in the design and operation of telecommunications systems or to perform short circuit/Arc Flash studies.He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Pennsylvania, and Virginia. His Specialties included Personnel Management & Development, Short Circuit & Arc Flash Analysis, Project Management, Budgeting & Forecasting, Telecommunications ,System planning, construction, & operation, System Design: MW, fiber optic, 2-way radio, telephone, Site Acquisition, IP & SS7 Networking, Construction Management, Wireless system familiarity: BTS, BSC, UMTS, DAS & MSC (GSM & CDMA), OSP Construction, Security System Planning & Design.
Joseph was an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He loved to sit and do crossword puzzles. He loved HO train sets and to build little towns for them. He communicated for years with his brother on the Hamm radio, it was one of his favorite ways to communicate. Joseph was a master mason.
Joseph is remembered with love by his two daughters, Jennifer Hawkins and Amy Paskins of Columbus , Ohio. He is also remembered with love by his brother Ronnie Hawkins of Virginia and his brother Thomas(Estella) Hawkins of Texas, numerous nieces and nephews and his five grandchildren Megan Paskins, Tyler Paskins, Andrew Paskins, Madilyn Paskins, Alexander Paskins, his great granddaughter KyLeigh Paskins, and his ex-wife Pauline Hawkins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Eleanor Hawkins and nephew Ronnie Joe.
Family will welcome friends from 6-8pm Friday, March 7, 2014 at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43232 where services will be held at 10am Saturday.
