

Joseph S. O’Connell, 85, of Worthington, passed away at his home July 4, 2015. He was born August 22, 1929 in New York, NY to the late Francis and Louise (Norris) O’Connell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jerrie (Koester) O’Connell; and his brother, Frank. He is survived by his three daughters: Katherine (Michael) Davidson of Avon Lake, OH; Liz (Rusty) Hall of Franklin, TN; and Mary (Gene) Coker of Powell, OH; grandchildren: Katie, Kipp and Kyle Davidson; Claire Coker, Lyndsey (Rick) LaVenture, Lauren (Micheal) Maher, Jordan Hall; great grandson John Maher; sister Billie Mattingly of Leonardtown, MD; brother-in-law: Kipp (Mary) Koester; and 20 nieces and nephews. Joe was a graduate of the Mt. Assumption Institute in Plattsburg, NY and received a full scholarship to Harvard University before enlisting in the Army and serving during the Korean War. Joe was a lover of classical music, poetry and classic movies, but was also known to enjoy Willie Nelson and David Allan Coe. Joe also loved his meetings with his “Monday lunch group” and his Wednesday dinners with “the Ferks”. Friends may call from 4-7pm Wednesday, July 8 at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 NORTH HIGH STREET. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Thursday, July 9 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 5750 North High Street, with Father Matthew Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Kingwood Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of First Watch in Worthington for providing daily friendship for many years and OhioHealth Hospice.
