

Joy Washburn Haines, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday May 8th, 2025. Joy was born on February 24, 1944 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a loving wife, mother, and was affectionately known as Grammy to her 3 grandkids.
Joy graduated from Jackson High School in 1962. She graduated from Ohio University in 1966 where she was the head majorette and cherished her Pi Beta Phi sisterhood. Joy was a public relations speaker for Columbia Gas, a role that fit her perfectly with her gregarious personality. Known for her kind heart and joyfulness, she courageously lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over 50 years. While physically capable, Joy attended Upper Arlington Lutheran Church.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen Washburn, and her sister, Sharee Gafford. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Alan, her two children, Kirk and Craig, and 3 grandkids, Dylan, Davis, and Drew. A special thanks to the incredible care Joy received for the past 7 years from Pam, her in house caregiver, as they shared many laughs together.
A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Joy’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
