Joyce graduated from Leeds University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, becoming the first member of her family to attend college and one of only a handful of women studying science in her class. In 1962, she emigrated to the United States and devoted her long professional career to Chemical Abstracts Service.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Francis (Frank) A. Healy, and by her daughter, Catherine Healy, whom she missed terribly. She is survived by her son, Dennis Healy; daughter-in-law, Amy Healy; and grandson, Joel Healy.
Joyce had the great good fortune to share the last 20 years of her mother’s life with her, when Mary came from England to live with Joyce, Frank, and Dennis. Family was always at the center of her life.
A scientist by training, Joyce was also endlessly curious about the world around her. She spoke French well, rooted constantly for the underdog, and brought kindness, humor, intelligence, and warmth to the people around her. She was a long-time volunteer at OhioHealth Kobacker House (now Hospice House), where she herself received compassionate care at the end of her life.
The family would like to thank Beth Herring, Jennifer Metzger, Peggy Kleer, and the entire staff of First Community Village for the tremendous care, support, and friendship they provided during Joyce’s final years. In addition, the family wishes to acknowledge the medical and caretaking teams at Riverside Methodist Hospital and OhioHealth Hospice House for the expert and loving care provided to Joyce.
Friends may call on Saturday, June 13, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Funeral Home Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Upper Arlington, OH 43221. Family and friends are invited to join in a brief remembrance service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to OhioHealth Hospice House (www.ohiohealth.com/ohiohealth-foundation) in her memory.
