Joyce Ann Rogers

Joyce Ann Rogers, age 76, sailed peacefully into the arms of God on Saturday, August 28, 2021, surrounded by her husband, three children, and eldest grandson. She was born on September 2, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Merle and Evelyn (Demmler) Fillinger.

Joyce was a devoted, loving, generous, nurturing, and protective wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her many friendships included those old and new, from childhood to high school, beauty school to Camp Fire Girls, neighbors to church family; friends she met through sailing and traveling, throughout Ohio, the United States and Canada. Joyce even continued to make new friends throughout her two-year battle with cancer. She was met with smiles and hugs and developed meaningful bonds with many of her caregivers at the James Cancer Hospital and treatment clinics. She loved and appreciated them, she always treated them with humility and gratitude.

Joyce was truly Captain of her own ship. Strong, spirited, brave; willing to learn, adapt, overcome. She gave of herself to others, took care of those she loved and those they loved - always more concerned with their well-being than her own. She impacted so many lives in ways they will forever remember. These last two years were difficult for her, emotionally and physically. She faced every setback with grace, determination, pride, and positivity - never complaining, never indulging in self-pity. Rough seas ahead? Well…OK, we'll just trim the sails and tack into the wind!

She will be greatly missed by her husband Roger Hankle; children Jennifer Belu, Jessica Grant (and husband Scott), Jeremy Rogers (and wife Deana); grandsons (oldest to youngest) Ian Davis, Mason Rogers, Alexander Grant, Jack Rogers, and William Grant; brother Charles Fillinger (wife Susi and son Demmler). And friends too many to count…

Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, OH 43221. Family will receive friends from 9 AM until time of service; additional visiting hours will be offered Tuesday, August 31, from 5-7 PM.
