Born on October 10, 1942 in Cincinnati, OH to Harry and Lucy Irene Oser, she grew up in Norwood, OH and attended St. Elizabeth’s Church and School. She graduated from Regina High School in 1961. Having grown up down the street from Xavier University, she had a passion for cheering on the Musketeers and attended many basketball games with her dad. Upon high school graduation, it was a natural next step to take a job working for and attending night school at the university she loved. She was crowned their homecoming queen in the fall of 1963, and, eventually, met her husband-to-be Robert Mark there. They were married at Bellarmine Chapel on the campus of Xavier in April of 1967. They settled down in Reading, Ohio and motherhood soon followed, which she embraced wholeheartedly. In 1975, the family was complete, and they were settled in Vincennes, Indiana, having moved there in 1971.
Raising four children and taking care of their home came naturally to Judy. Her sole purpose in life was to be a mother, and she engendered a fiercely loyal love in her children, both for her and each other. She supported her children in all of their endeavors and could often be heard cheering on the sidelines of their games. She had incredible patience when it came to teaching her children. Every night the family of 6 joined around the table to a home cooked meal. She loved all things homemaking, including cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and even cleaning. A laundry item would barely hit the basket before it was back in a dresser, clean and folded.
When she became a grandma, she found her next purpose in life. Daily interactions with her grandchildren were the highlight of her days. She would drop everything to be a part of their lives.
Her devotion to family was surpassed only by her Catholic faith. Amongst many prayers, she prayed the rosary, daily, her entire life, falling asleep praying it the night before she died. The last thirty years of her life, the same devotion and loyalty was showered upon her daughter, Jennifer, who had suffered a traumatic brain injury, as she became her primary caregiver.
Judy found joy in living a simple life. She loved the sun, long walks, line dancing, a flourishing garden, Elvis music, a good fireworks show, and Old Glory.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lucy Irene Oser. She is survived by children Robert (Colleen) Mark, Jr., Jeffrey Mark, Jennifer Mark, and Lisa (Mike) Fitzpatrick; grandchildren - Maria (Sam) Thompson, Matthew (Johanna), Michael, Nicholas, & Patrick Mark; Michael, Maggie, Johnny & Anna Fitzpatrick; sister, Sylvia (Al) Vennemeyer; brother, Paul Oser; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Special thanks to the staff of Abbington of Arlington for providing a caring home for her during her illness and to Capital City Hospice for loving on her during her final months.
It was Judy’s wish that memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
