Judy Smith

Judith (Judy) Smith, age 71, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away at her home on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Judy was born here in Columbus on January 21, 1953 to Elmer and JoAnne Holstein. Ever since a young age, Judy was ambitious; she took challenges and hardships in stride and had many accomplishments. After graduating from Columbus West High School, Judy went on to further her education at Capital University where she earned her undergraduate degree in music and her Master’s Degree in education. Judy loved teaching and spent many years helping grow and form the minds of hundreds of elementary students. On top of being a K-5th grade teacher, Judy also taught for the gifted program as well as offered private music lessons. Outside of teaching, Judy had many hobbies: She loved music and was a classically trained cellist as well as a painter. During her later years, she and her husband, Robert, tried their hand at horseback riding and even took on the task of owning and caring for two horses. Judy lived a very fulfilling life; she loved to travel and go on adventures. Even towards the end when things got very difficult, Judy’s light never dimmed. She was an incredibly strong and brave woman who will be missed by many.

Judy is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert Smith; her children, Rachel and Adam (Hayley); grandchildren, Katie, Israel, Trace, and Xander; brother, Bryan Holstein; sister-in-law Robin (Fred) Ballam; as well as her two horses, River and Misty; and her ever faithful and loving canine companion, Poppy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and JoAnne; and her big brother, David Holstein.

A visitation will be held at 12:00 pm-1:00 pm Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Schoedinger East, 5360 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43232, where a funeral service will begin at 1:00pm. A private graveside will be held at Glen Rest Memorial Estates after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Judy’s memory.
