Each of us meets very few people in life, who are so concerned about others, and helping them.

Among her many talents were her ability always to think of others, and how to be of help to them.

As a teacher, she loved her students and directed all her energy to helping them grow.

She did the same for everyone she knew.

Even during the ten years of treatment for Stage IV lung cancer, she directed all her energy to helping friends and staying hopeful that she might return to good health.

She developed a website telling about Abraham Lincoln, the Poet, which tells of Lincoln’s love for poetry—something that made his words, as in the Gettysburg Address, so much more powerful.

She conducted choirs and wrote a hymn for church services.

She and MaryAnn traveled to many places in the country to see historic sites, and to further their appreciation for literature.

She loved the OSU Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds, and she studied baseball like a young kid, knowing many batting averages and their historical context.

She loved trips to Eagle River, Wisconsin, where she and MaryAnn loved to float on Catfish Lake, referring to it as “going inter—tubing.”

She kindly tolerated her brother John’s constant jabbering about his favorite composer, Gustav Mahler, perhaps because he had read bedtime stories to her as a young child of eight. John is proud that one day, he told her, “why don’t you read the stories to me, and I’ll help you with any words you can’t sound out.” John would like to think that this exposure to reading and literature helped develop her love for it.
