

June Eschenbrenner Merritt, died on Monday, November 28, 2011 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Bexley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cicely and Hector Eschenbrenner Sr.; husband, John C. Merritt Sr.; sister, Mary Monaghan; brother, Hector Eschenbrenner Jr.; niece, Debbie Adair. She is survived by her children, John C. (Pat) Merritt Jr., Nancy (Larry) Bagranoff, Peggy (Larry) Martin, and Randall (Lori) Merritt; sister-in-law, Delores Adair; brother-in-law, Donald (Sara) Merritt; grandchildren, Tiffany (Kevin) Knaul, Jaime (Steve) Waterfield, Amanda (Chris) Herron, Scott McDermott, and Jennifer June Martin; dear nieces and nephews and 7 great-grandchildren. She feels so blessed to have this wonderful family. Family was everything to her! June graduated from Bexley High School in 1941 and still kept her circle of friends from their meeting for lunch the third Wednesday of the month at Columbus Country Club where June was a long time member. She also was a member of the Athletic club of Columbus and board of Franklin Park Conservatory and was a volunteer at Grant Hospital for five years. June went to National Park Junior College in Forest Glen, Maryland out of Washington D.C. It was a beautiful girls school but World War II broke out while she was there and the government took it over for an extension of Walter Reed Hospital. It was featured in National Geographic Magazine a few times. She attended Ohio State University where she met her husband Jack at a Pi Beta Phi Sorority party where he and some other young men came over to see the pledge class. They had 48 years of marriage. June always said she had a wonderful life and was truly blessed. Funeral service will be held at 1:30pm Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Schoedinger Midtown Chapel, 229 East State St., Columbus, where the family will receive friends from 1:00pm-1:30pm. Pastor Carey F. Simonton officiating. Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
