June E. Stiefel

June E. Stiefel, age 88, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025. She was born on February 2, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the only child of the late George and Esther (Willis) Walker. She graduated from Abington High School in Abington, Pennsylvania and earned a 2 year degree from Lycoming College. She married her childhood sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Stiefel, in 1957 and lived in Iowa, Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts before moving with their 3 children to Columbus, Ohio in 1971. June retired in 1996 as the administrative assistant to the director of the Ohio State University Supercomputing Center.

June loved the Lord, her family, music and singing, Ohio State football, and her Welsh Terrier pups. She served as a soloist and choir member and was the Children’s Choir Director at Northwest United Methodist Church for many years. She also sang with the choirs at Riverside Methodist Church and Meadow Park Church of God including performing “In His Presence” and sang with the Columbus Damenchor. Her great heart for serving the Lord led her to complete the Walk to Emmaus, serve as a Stephen’s minister, and to serve on many other committees with the churches in which she was a member.

In addition to her work at OSU and her numerous church activities, June enjoyed being a Longaberger consultant and serving as a Weight Watchers lecturer/facilitator. June was a passionate seamstress and equally passionate OSU football fan. She attended Ohio State home football games for many years, cheering loudly for her team. Over the years, June and Bob hosted many events such as casino nights or backyard volleyball games for students and faculty from the Civil Engineering program at Ohio State at their home. They also hosted an exchange student, Eva Baltensperger, who became another beloved family member.

June will be greatly missed by her children Gary (wife Sarah Eaton); Karen Cooper; Lori Stiefel; and grandsons Andrew Stiefel (wife Sarah Pyle); Zachary Stiefel (wife Rachel McCormick); and Corey Machen. In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert Carl Stiefel.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 25 at Meadow Park Church of God, 2425 Bethel Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220, where family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
