Kathyrn Phillis, age 79, was born on June 29, 1930 in Rock Island, IL to the late Bazle and Inez DeNoma, and passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1948 and Marycrest College in 1952. Kay retired from the Ohio Department of Aging in 1997. As an adult, she lived in several places including Davenport and Shenandoah, IA; Chicago, Park Forest, Bloomington, and Galesburg, IL; and finally in Grove City, Ohio where she resided for 37 years. She enjoyed gardening, visiting relatives in Montana and Florida, traveling to Norway, and driving through Hocking Hills in the spring and fall. Kay also enjoyed keeping in touch with her aunts and cousins through the Round Robin, a family letter writing chain started over 40 years ago. She was a great story-teller, as her kids and grandkids can attest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Phillis; and her good friend, Marion Weyman. Kay was very proud of her family. Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Marjorie Kruse of Grove City, Dr. Mary (Dr. Pat) McNamara of Toledo, Patricia Phillis-Lykins of Grove City, and David (Kim Wilson) Phillis of Highland Park, IL; 11 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren: Jessica (John) Hitchcock and George –Jeanna; Jennifer (Kevin) Beavers; Scott (Phallon) Duncan, Dominick and Brianna; Erica Kruse; Patrick, Michael, and Thomas McNamara; Jonathan and Matthew Lykins; and Michael and Becky Wilson. She is also survived by brothers, Lee (Eleanor) Denoma and James (Linda) DeNoma; brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Lou Rishel, Donald (Willie) Phillis, William (Anne) Phillis, and Dr. Richard (Diane) Phillis; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Kay was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. Family will receive friends from 5:00PM-7:00PM Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the SCHOEDINGER-NORRIS CHAPEL 3920 Broadway, Grove City. Rosary will be recited at 6:30PM. Private interment will take place at Grove City Cemetery. Mom is tending her new Heavenly garden, so the family requests no flowers. Instead, memorial contributions can be made to the Holy Family Soup Kitchen. Kay’s family would like to thank her neighbors and friends for their kindness, and the hospice staff, especially Jeannie and Celeste, for their wonderful care.
