Born on April 2, 1955, to Homer and Helen Glover, Kathy grew up in Columbus and attended Central High School, where she proudly played in the marching band. It was there in her hometown that she met the love of her life, John A. Smith. They quickly fell in love and went on to build a beautiful life together, raising four sons—each born just a year apart. Kathy devoted herself fully to being a wife and mother, a role she embraced with love, humor, and an unmatched strength. With a family that size, she often joked there wasn’t time for much else—and truth be told, there was nothing else she would have rather done.
Kathy’s family was her entire world. She poured her heart into raising her boys and later helped raise her beloved nephew, Daniel, with whom she shared a special bond. As the years passed, her family grew to include ten grandchildren who affectionately knew her as “Grammie.” She formed a unique and loving relationship with each of them and embraced her role as Grammie with warmth, wisdom, and joy. In her later years, she was blessed again with seven great-grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness and whom she cherished deeply.
Kathy will be remembered for her unconditional love, her fierce loyalty, her deep compassion, and her unwavering strength. She was a woman of strong faith and passed on her love for God to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, guiding them with grace and gentle wisdom. Her life was full of love, laughter, and meaningful moments shared with those she held most dear.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John A. Smith; her four sons, whom she proudly called “her boys”: Andy (Stacy) Smith, James (Tracy) Smith, Tim (Tricia) Smith, and Johnny (Carley) Smith; her grandchildren: Austin (Madison) Smith, Ally (Mike) Lane, Macie Smith, Hayley Smith, Mason Smith, Andrew Smith, Matthew Smith, Max Smith, Aidan Smith, and Derek (Megan) Scherbarth; and her great-grandchildren: Lillie, Lilah, Amelia, Allison, Ari, Aaliyah, and Charlotte. She also leaves behind her beloved nephew Daniel Slone and her siblings: Eugene (Brenda) Glover, Connie Slone, and Donald Glover.
Mom, we love you more than words can express. Thank you for shaping us, guiding us, and loving us unconditionally. You are and will always be our greatest inspiration. Forever your boys.
