

Katie Mae Pate-Burrough was born on September 20, 1935, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Janie and Frank Pate. She departed this life surrounded by love, and leaves behind a legacy of strength, resilience, faith, and devotion to family. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Janie and Frank Pate; her husband, Joseph Simmons; her daughter, Brenda Marie Pate; her sisters, Elnora Willis and Annabelle Mitchell; and her brothers, John Pate, John Henry Pate, James "Sonny" Pate, and Baby Brother Fulton Pate. Katie lived a full and hardworking life as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, godmother, and friend. She enjoyed attending church services, hosting cookouts for family and friends, gardening, especially tending to her beloved roses, and caring for her home as a devoted homemaker. She worked in food service in St. Louis, including cooking for TWA Airline at Dobb House, Delta Airline, and American West Airline. She later owned and operated Katie's Barbecue Buffet in Kinloch, Missouri. After relocating to Columbus, Ohio, she resumed her seamstress career and remained in that field until retiring from R.G. Barry. Katie will be remembered for her strength, determination, and love for her family. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Terry Michael Pate, and Vicky Jean Pate, the parents of her beloved granddaughters, Tamikka and Tahlia Pate (Sierra Pate); her cherished great-grandson, Marlow Pate; her two living sisters, Adna Carter and Rose Cage; her brother, Frank "Buster" Pate; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, goddaughters, godsons, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
