Lance W. Shields, lovingly known as “Chico” to family and friends, was born on February 16, 1959. On February 26, 2026, he was called home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable stories.
Lance was a father to his two sons, David and Donovan, and a proud grandfather. He was a loving brother to Stuart, a loyal friend, and the kind of man who could turn a stranger into a lifelong conversation within minutes. If you met Lance, you remembered him.
A proud attendee of Tennessee State University—his mother and brother’s alma mater—Lance carried both family pride and personal confidence wherever he went. He was a true people person. He could talk to anyone, anywhere, about just about anything. Whether he was sharing wisdom, offering advice, or telling a story that may have grown just a little better with time, Lance had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and thoroughly entertained.
Authenticity defined him. Lance was always himself—unfiltered, honest, and unapologetically real. If you asked him how he felt, you were going to get the full answer. And somehow, even his most direct truths often came with a grin and a laugh.
He was a man of many stories, many friendships, and an undeniably big heart. Beneath his humor and bold personality was a deep and unwavering love for his family and those closest to him.
Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life well lived and a spirit that will never be forgotten. We will miss his voice, his laughter, and his presence more than words can express.
Rest well, Chico. You were truly one of a kind, and you will be loved and remembered always.
Visitation will be held 12:00 - 1:00 pm Friday, March 6, 2026 at Schoedinger East, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., where the funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
