Laura E. Hall (October 26, 1961-July 25, 2025) beloved sister, loving aunt, and faithful daughter was pre-deceased by her father, George F. Hall and Carol Ann (Lane) Hall. She is survived by her brother Roger Hall (Patty), nephews Samuel Hall and Luke Hall, and niece Grace Hall.
Laura received her BS in Pharmacy in 1984 and PharmD degree in 1997 from Ohio State and was licensed as a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist in 2001.
Throughout her career she worked to develop new roles for pharmacist involvement with interdisciplinary teams. She started her pharmacy career as a hospital generalist, rounding in the medical intensive care unit and working with infectious disease physicians to develop once-daily aminoglycoside dosing protocols. She provided pharmacist expertise on Patient Education and Infection Control committees, and participated in the Collaborative Home Care Project, a multi-disciplinary group that addressed the clinical needs of HIV patients early in the HIV/AIDS pandemic. She also co-developed a shared practice with Family Medicine, rounding inpatient with the residents, and providing practical pharmacy education during their clinical rotations. This early acceptance of innovative roles for the pharmacist allowed Dr. Hall to expose pharmacy students and residents to unique practice opportunities.
Dr. Hall’s first practice at OSU in 2000 was with the Columbus Neighborhood Health Center, a group of seven Federally Qualified Health Centers that provide medical services to the underserved. As one of the first pharmacists at the clinic, she worked to improve medication access and developed protocols to reach chronic disease state goals for her patients. Laura was a dedicated preceptor for Ohio State pharmacy students and residents, serving as the primary preceptor for 10 PGY1 residents and 61 OSU pharmacy students over her 11 years of practice at this site.
In 2011, Dr. Hall transitioned to practice at CarePoint East, a new practice site for OSU General Internal Medicine that served a similar low-income multi-cultural population. She has worked as an ambulatory care pharmacist at additional GIM sites, including her most recent work at Martha Morehouse where she worked in transitional care management after hospital discharge. In her ambulatory care roles, Dr. Hall worked alongside attending physicians to educate medical residents and precepted pharmacy residents and students. From 2014-2020, Laura served as Residency Program Director of the PGY1 ambulatory care program. In addition to her dedicated pharmacy practice and precepting, Laura has also contributed to the PharmD curriculum. In Ohio State’s i3 curriculum, she championed the Drug Information thread and contributed to the Concepts in Patient Care series.
One particular theme that permeated Dr. Hall’s practice was drawn from an inspirational quote by Frederick Buechner – “Vocation is the place where your deep gladness meets the world’s deep need.” With this quote in mind, Laura used her pharmacist training to serve on medical teams on short-term mission trips, treating both hospital and community underserved patient populations in countries around the world. She was a part of medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic, Haiti (twice), Mongolia, and Nagaland (India), where she met a converted head-hunter.
As a member of Karl Road Baptist Church since her mid 20’s, Laura has served faithfully in many other capacities. She helped coordinate and staff multiple trips to poor Appalachian communities to repair houses through a program called MountainTop. She was a youth group advisor for many years, volunteered in the singles ministry both locally and nationally through the American Baptist Convention. More recently, she served on both the mission board and the pastoral search committee for her church. She preferred more behind-the-scenes roles where her deeds showed her faithful commitment more than her words.
Laura had a number of close friends with whom she vacationed. She enjoyed national and international travel since childhood. Finally, Laura invested herself into the lives of her two nephews and niece. She delighted in their successes and sorrowed at their defeats. They were ever present in her mind.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Karl Road Baptist Church at 5750 Karl Rd Columbus, Ohio 43229. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, Memorial Service at 10:30 AM. Laura’s Favorite Bible Verse, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
