

Laura Lissa McKinney, age 65, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017, at her home. Lissa is survived by her beloved daughter, Sarah Larissa McKinney, of Columbus, and their cherished cat, Gary. She is also survived by her nephew Darrah McKinney, two grandnieces, Mara and Kaia McKinney, all of Portsmouth, OH; nephew Brett Ingram of Columbus, OH; cousins Richard McKinney and Nancy McKinney, both of Nashville, TN; cousin Matt McKinney of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law Jill McKinney of Albany, OH; uncle Barney (Pat) McKinney, of Portsmouth; cousins Breece McKinney of Chicago, IL and Dean McKinney of Raleigh, NC. Lissa is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Laura Jane McKinney; brother, Philip McKinney; and uncle and aunt, Jack and Barbara Ann McKinney. Lissa graduated from Portsmouth High School, class of 1970, and from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History in 1974. Known for her artistic skills and volunteer work, Lissa was most devoted to her family. Of her many accomplishments, her most cherished time was spent raising her daughter. As an active antiques collector and dealer, artist, calligrapher and certified gemologist, Lissa used her many talents in the family business, Binn's Antiques, formerly on Second Street in Portsmouth. When she returned to her hometown in 2001, she focused her time and energy into the city revitalization efforts through the organization Main Street Portsmouth. She served on their Board of Directors for ten years, co-chaired the Design Committee, and worked behind the scenes coordinating countless events and fundraisers. She is most remembered for the love she showed to so many, the care she put into all of her service, and her welcoming smile.
