Lawrence E. Stout, known to most simply as Larry, peacefully passed away on December 20, 2025, just one day after celebrating his 87th birthday. Larry’s life was profoundly transformed when he came to faith in Jesus, who guided him with peace, hope, and strength throughout the years.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy L. Stout, with whom he shared nearly 58 years of marriage—an enduring partnership marked by devotion, hard work, and deep love.
He is survived by his sister, Martha Yargus of Sigourney, Iowa; half-brother, Rusty (Kira) Stout of Jefferson City, MO; his children:
* Marci (Jerry) Parker of Coeur d'Alene, ID
* Michael (Christine) Stout of Casper, WY
* Michele (Dustin) McIntosh of Edmond, OK
* Megan (Keith) Barley of Reynoldsburg, OH
* Matthew Stout of Pataskala, OH
Additionally, he is survived by 15 cherished grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Larry proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the SS Tiru. A skilled mechanic, his expertise and strong work ethic took him across Iowa, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and ultimately to Ohio, where he retired from LESCO/John Deere. He had the ability to fix just about anything, and his pride in honest work was clear to all who knew him.
Although dementia gradually stole his abilities and hobbies, it never took away his warm, infectious smile. His faith remained a quiet comfort, and that smile won over fellow residents and the devoted staff at Majestic Care of Columbus, as well as the compassionate team at Gentiva Hospice, where Larry became affectionately known as "Grandpa" or "Poppop" to many.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who walked alongside Larry during this journey, offering care, kindness, and comfort.
A celebration of life will be held 1-3 pm Sunday, December 28, 2025 at Schoedinger East, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. Columbus, OH 43232.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry's memory to the Alzheimer's Association of Ohio.
Plans are being made for a service in Iowa in 2026, where Larry will be reunited with his beloved Nancy and other family members, allowing friends and loved ones to gather, remember, and celebrate their lives together.
