Lee was a lifelong family friend and will be remembered always. From a young age, he encouraged my success in life and sports.  Lee will be missed.

Jaqi and Connor - It really hit home last night at the service what a wonderful impact Lee and your family have had on our lives.  Watching the video, seeing how Connor has grown up, looking at him and Kyle talking to each other, it all made me realize how special a person Lee was and how important the Howard family has been to us over the years.  For someone as accomplished in his life as Lee was and for as busy as we always are with the daily grind, it was like having an aunt and uncle in Ohio for Erica and Kyle whenever we were with your family.  There’s a lot that Lee did over the years for our children, especially Kyle, with swimming lessons and soccer and Halloween and birthday parties.  I don’t see how we would have made it through all that without Lee’s help and encouragement and without the friendship that Connor and Kyle had growing up.  Your family has meant so much to us over the years and we are so sorry for your loss.  Please know that our lives are much better for having known Lee, we cannot imagine a better person to have been part of those years when the kids were growing up.  We will have our memories of him forever and the Howard family will always have a special place in our hearts.  Take care and know that we will always be there, like Lee was always there for us. Dear Jaqi and Connor,

I met Lee the first day I trained at the OSU Weightlifting Club in 1974. He was one of the top competitive bodybuilders in the club. As one of the club's competitive weightlifters I noted Lee's impressive explosive strength, quickness and agility and encouraed him to begin the Olympic style competition lifts in 1977. Lee quickly became a national level competitive weightlifter. He and I traveled together to two National Collegiate Championships where, I believe, he won awards at both. Lee went on to lift 400 pounds overhead from the floor (Clean and Jerk event), joining an elite group of individuals to accomplish such a feat. For members of our weightlifting community, Lee became the gold standard by which we judged our own success in athletics, profession and economic status. I count it a privilege to have been a teammate and friend of Lee's.

Connor, soon after you were born your father told me that becoming a father was by far the greatest event of his life--far surpassing his multiple achievements and life experiences. The last time I spoke to him he repeatedly expressed how proud he was of you, especially of your intellectual abilities.

Jaqi and Connor, I am so sorry of your loss. You will both be in my prayers during the days ahead.

Dear Jaqi, I was saddened to learn of the loss of my well respected colleague, your husband, and Connor's father.  My heart goes out to both of you, as I know you will both miss him terribly. To the Family and Friends of Lee:

I had known Lee from our days when we trained at the OSU Weightlifting Club. I admired him for not only his impressive size, strength, and tenacity, but also as a very kind and caring individual. He was one of those rare people who at first blush, you didn't know whether you would grow to like him or hate him. I'm happy that I chose the former and I can say that indeed he was a very rare and unique individual. 

The last time I had seen Lee was back in 1987 outside of the YMCA in downtown Columbus. This was after the closure of the OSU Weightlifting Club when we were forced to change our training venues. Recent news of Lee's passing left me feeling quite sad but also brought back into memory our last meeting. That evening after a brief conversation, we had departed from one another on a hand shake and exchanged well-wishes. When I reflect back upon my days at OSU, the Club is in the forefront of those fond memories and I am glad that Lee occupies a permanent residence.

I regret not having the courage to tell Lee what an important part he played in my life during such a difficult time. Not as a psychologist but as a friend. Even more so I regret not staying connected with Lee as our lives changed in so many ways. Lee was a tenacious competitor and taught me a great deal about competition not through words, but by example. At the same time we had fun. Lots of fun. Trips, friendships and just talking.
Perhaps one of the best ways to judge character is by the impact we have on other lives. Lee had a tremendous impact on mine.
Most certainly he was beloved and cherished by his family, starting with his Mom, Jaqi and Connor.
I do not pretend to understand why life chooses to take such a person, but what I do know is that for all, and I mean all, of us who knew him we are blessed.
You will live forever in my memories Lee.

I was very sorry to learn of Dr. Howard's death. As an attorney in the workers' compensation area I appreciated that Dr. Howard always treated me with utmost professionalism and respect although we were on opposite sides of the cases.  I learned a lot about psychology and continue to use some of the skills today which I was able to improve by being involved in the cases in which Dr. Howard was involved. I'm so sorry for you and your family.  I just re-read Lee's obituary and I'm amazed at how talented he was, even aside from his profession.  I'm glad to learn of his many accomplishments and I know your strong memories will allow you to continue to cherish him forever.

I met Lee once and have been an appreciative peer who benefited from his thorough work. He was someone that I believe to be respectful of his patients and honest in his interpretations. He will be missed. Michael Miller

Lee was a firecracker, he always made me laugh. I feel blessed to have had the small amount of time with him that I did. I know he was a proud father and a family man. He could see right through people and was not scared to get to the point. He once told me " I trust you with Connor, so I trust you with work".

Jaqi, Connor and Family,

I am so sad to hear about Lee's passing and cannot comprehend what you are going through. Miles and Greg were so sad to hear about him too. We were admiring Connor during their last basketball game and saying what a fine young man he is becoming and how proud you (Jaqi) and Lee must be of him. I met you all in baby swim lessons and helped Lee teach Connor to swim, and then you graciously invited us in your home for Santa's arrival and the boys played on many soccer teams and against each other in DYA games. When we think about Lee's enthusaism for sports and life and his competitive nature, we smile and remember how strong and vocal he was. I wanted you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and may God hold you in his arms. God Bless.
