Leon (Bill) Mertz, 82, passed away June 24, 2012. He was born in Berea, OH on February 5, 1930 to the late Leon and Anita Mertz. Grew up in Wellsville. Attended Crestview; graduated from North High in 1948 and from The Ohio State University (Kappa Sigma) in 1952. Disc Jockey on WMVO, Mt. Vernon, and for WVKO (Bill’s Basement 1952-1959), at WBNS Radio in broadcast and sales, 1960-1982. Also WCOL & WTTE-TV until 1988. He enjoyed sports, “Reds Fan”, gardening and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Clare; daughters, Teri Meider and Pegge Riley; granddaughters, Anna Meider and Tacy Flaherity; sister Margy Snyder; nieces and nephews.
