

Leslie Willard "Bill" Guess, age 86 of Columbus, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016. Bill was born in Millfield, Ohio and grew up in The Plains, Ohio, son of the late Robert and Mildred Guess. Also preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Guess, Lucille Meek, and Lula Mae Starkey. Bill was a very patriotic U.S. Army Veteran who proudly served his country in the Korean War. He was a member of Carpenters Local #200 for 65 years, lifelong member of the VFW Upper Arlington #2374 and later transferred to Bensen W. Hough #3424. He was past Post Commander, Chairman of many state conventions and mid-winter conferences, and also was selected and went on the Honor Flight in 2013. In addition, Bill also was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic University Lodge #631, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus, and was the recipient of the Jimmy Crum Golden Lily Award through Easter Seals which he received as a result of all his tireless volunteer service. Bill made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was friendly, outgoing and had the gift of gab. He will greatly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Velma Guess; children, Jerry Cunningham, Aleusha (Jay) Gerlach, Denise (John) Halley, Dennis (Mitch) Guess, Roger (Barbara) Guess, and Jill (T.J.) Conger; grandchildren, Jayme (Leah), Stacey (Don), Aaron, Ryan (Heather), Kylee (Thomas), Nathan (Sarah), Courtney (Stan), J.B., Ashleigh, Arlene, Benjamin, Abby, Matthew, Christopher, and Bethany; great grandchildren, Ava, Ella, Texaco, Harlee, Bryce, Brynn, and Hannah; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where family will receive friends from 4-8 P.M. Tuesday and where a VFW service will begin at 7:30 P.M. Minister Gene Carrell officiating. Interment Dublin Cemetery. Bills family would like to thank those who have reached out personally to them during this difficult time with cards and phone calls, as well as the staff at Carriage Court of Hilliard, Vitas Hospice, and Always Best Care Senior Services for the wonderful care and support they have shown.
