Linda S. Heinzerling, 63, of Upper Arlington, Ohio, passed away on September 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Linda was a lifelong resident of Upper Arlington and a proud member of the community she called home.
Linda graduated from Upper Arlington High School and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The Ohio State University. She later received a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Capital University. Nursing was not simply a career for Linda—it was a calling. She spent 32 years caring for children and families at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where her compassion, strength, and dedication touched countless lives. She also served patients and families through hospice care at Kobacker House and shared her knowledge and passion for nursing as an educator at Columbus State Community College, Capital University, and Felbry College, School of Nursing. Most recently, Linda served her fellow veterans as a community nurse for the VA.
Linda’s commitment to serving others extended beyond her nursing career. For 24 years, she proudly served on the Board of Trustees of the Heinzerling Community, an organization that held a special place in her heart. She also proudly served her country for 23 years in the United States Naval Reserve, retiring with the rank of Commander. Among the experiences she was most proud of were her deployments to the Javits Center in New York City and to Bahrain during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Above all of her professional accomplishments, Linda was devoted to her family. She had a fierce and unwavering love for her twin daughters, Kendall and Elise, who were her greatest pride and joy. She treasured her family and friends and had a remarkable ability to make people laugh, feel welcome, and feel loved.
Linda loved to travel and was happiest near the water, especially at Torch Lake, Michigan. She also loved time spent in Key West and Coronado Beach, music of all kinds, laughter, good friends, late mornings and even later nights, a good glass of wine or a cold beer. She lived life with a generous spirit, a strong sense of adventure, and an appreciation for the people and moments that made it meaningful.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Robert A. Heinzerling and Kathryn P. Heinzerling; her maternal and paternal grandparents; and numerous beloved aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her beloved twin daughters, Kendall and Elise Heinzerling Schieber; her brother, Robert Heinzerling (Suvon Touch); her sister, Karen Heinzerling (Rick Hatcher); nephews Jack Fu and Tyler Fu; niece Claire Fu; uncle Thad Sieg; extended family member Micheline Silva; and cousins John and Julie Clarkson, along with many friends and colleagues who will miss her dearly.
Linda leaves behind a legacy of caring, service, laughter, friendship, and fierce love. She gave generously to her patients, her students, her country, her community, and—most of all—to her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love and memories she created will remain with all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Family will receive friends from 4:30-7:30 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Heinzerling Community.
