Lit a candle in memory of Lois Jean Welsh

Tom and family,
Just today, Apr. 13, I read my Dispatch from one week ago and am deeply saddened to learn of your mother's death on Apr. 1, and greatly regret that it caused me to miss the church service and, more importantly, the opportunity to meet you and the family.  Lois and I became friends at water aerobics class in 1995, and then discovered we both were members of St. John's Episcopal Church in Worthington.  We attended services at different times, but the one time I went to the 9 a.m. service, I watched as she and your late father kissed after saying the Peace, and I was touched.  Lois spoke lovingly, not only of Bill and how they were high school sweethearts, but of her entire family, down to the last great-great grandchild --- which probably doesn't surprise you.  I left Ohio in 2005 to "follow" my only 2 granddaughters, first to TX and then to Raleigh, NC, for 8 years before returning to OH. Lois and I kept in touch through email, and several phone calls --- she called to tell me about your sister Barbara --- so we've shared with one another many "ups and downs."

I was so happy when her hearing returned and she called me in late March, and we had talked about trying to have lunch together in April.  Of course I knew of her problems with her back, etc., but you know your mother was not one to feel sorry for herself.  When I returned from NC, we tried to lunch together every one or 2 months. In Dec. 2015, she might have told you we celebrated our birthdays together (I turned 80 on the 17th that year) at O'Charley's and we were both happily surprised that the manager insisted on paying the entire bill for both of us.  I was ill last Dec. and we couldn't celebrate, so I told her we'd have to make up for that this year.  I can't believe she has left us and I will miss her friendship very much.  I hope your many memories (like that last cruise to Hawaii) will give you solace in the days ahead --- as will the knowledge that she is now with God and with your father.  I very much enjoyed the photos Schoedinger used for the tribute.

We want you to know that it was a privilege to have Lois live at Friendship Village Columbus.  Her and I would have many chats before she met her friends for dinner.  Her sense of humor was contagious.  We also had a good conversation.  She also shared her love for traveling to and with her family.  Please know that she will be very much missed.  We wish you comfort during this time.  May God Bless.

I was saddened to learn of the death of Lois.  I recall memories of the past when she would come to Boys State at the end of the week and we would chat along with your dad.

Lois was a kind, gentle and caring lady.  We shared a 38-year friendship through our working relationship and continued after she retired.  I will miss her so much but I know she is at peace now.  My deepest sympathy to her family - they were the light of her life.  Shirley Marlowe

Although we never had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Welsh, we feel we know her just a little bit through her grandson, Brent.  We can only imagine what a wonderful woman she must have been.
