Loren was born in Boston of parents Fanette Brown Waldman (Cantor) and Saul Waldman. He was happily married for 33 years to Ohio State University professor and scholar Marilyn Robinson Waldman, who preceded him in death in 1996.
Loren grew up in the Boston area, where he attended the historic Boston Latin School and Boston University. Subsequently, he studied at the London School of Economics and earned a Ph.D. degree in political science from the University of Chicago. Later he changed his professional focus to accounting and taught accounting at Franklin University in Columbus, where he made some lifelong friends among his colleagues.
Loren loved flowers and gardens, was an avid gardener himself, and visited many beautiful gardens in his lifetime. He enjoyed music of all kinds, from classical to folk music and African and Latin American music. He loved to dance and seized every opportunity to do so. He was interested in his family history and along with his cousin Jeff Werner, spent several years researching his family tree. Throughout his life he maintained a passionate interest in political events. He was an unabashed liberal Democrat and contributed generously to the causes he supported. Loren was known for his wicked sense of humor and was always ready with a witty comment.
Loren will be remembered with love and gratitude by his daughter Amy Kahan and son-in-law David Kahan, his grandchildren Jeremy, Rachel, and Ethan, his sister Barbara Palant, his close friend Aija Bjornson, and his relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the aides of Visiting Angels for their care.
According to Loren’s wishes, no public service will be held.
