Lorraine S. Clark

Lorrie Spotts Clark, 91, passed away on February 15, 2021 in Columbus, OH. Lorrie was born September 5, 1929 in Reading, PA, the daughter of the late Dorothy Livingood and Walter Spotts. She retained a life-long love for that part of the country, its special foods (sauerkraut) and craftsmen (Ned Foltz, Left-handed Russell Henry). She had plenty of boyfriends in her high school years and was considered the "Elizabeth Taylor of Reading High School.

Lorrie graduated from Lake Erie College, where she met her beloved Ted at a dance including Lake Erie and Kenyon College students. They were married on June 27, 1953 and were able to celebrate their 60th anniversary at their favorite spot, The Black Point Inn, in Maine with their entire family.

Lorrie worked as a teacher before having children and helped put the kids through college working first in Columbus, then Dublin, as a school librarian. Lorrie loved working with children, books and being able to start two elementary school libraries in Dublin. She also loved the Columbus Museum of Art, where she was a Docent, and then a member of the Women's Board and Docent Alums where she also served as President of the Docent Alumnae. The rigorous course she went through to become a docent gave her the courage to go back to school to get her library licensure, after which she received her Master's in Children's Literature under the tutelage of the legendary Charlotte Huck. She was very proud of completing this after the age of 50, and the book group she joined with fellow students, TROL, continues to this day. She loved children's literature and picture books, and amassed quite the collection, which she donated to the newly renovated Miller Park Library branch of the Upper Arlington Library system when she and Ted moved to the Chelsea at First Community Village in 2008. Lorrie never met a clothing store or sale she didn't love, and truly enjoyed visiting her friends at J. McLaughlin, Worth and Carlisle while shopping. She was always beautifully dressed, which was very important to her. Lorrie was a collector of many things, be it children's books, clothes, strawberries, lambs, bunnies, Santa's, or art. Her beautiful things brought her great joy. Lorrie was a wonderful mother and grandmother to Dotsy (Ralph) Griffith, Beth Clark, and Ned (Nicole) Clark, and grandchildren Jonny Griffith, Sarah Griffith, Penelope Clark and Ford Clark.

She led by her example of loyalty to her friends and family, hard work and perseverance, and her independent spirit. She loved visiting with friends and family, playing bridge, her Cancer Ray and Garden Club, the Rocky Fork Beagling group, attending parties and dinners, and had a real zest for life. She just recently had dinner with her family and enjoyed the Christmas decorations at Scioto Country Club, where she had been a member since 1965. Lorrie was preceded in death by her husband Ted, her parents Walter and Dorothy Spotts, and her sister Virginia Spotts. Due to COVID restrictions, Lorrie's family will hold a private service to be followed by a Celebration of Life at a later date.
