Louis Becker, M.D., age 80, of New Albany, Ohio (formerly of Dayton, Ohio) died peacefully on June 9, 2012. Dr. Becker was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Morris Becker, his stepfather, John Lerer and daughter-in-law, Leslie Becker. Dr. Becker leaves behind his first and only love and best friend, Mabel Becker, of 55 years. Dr. Becker has four children, Wendy (Howard) Rood, David Becker, Marc (Johann) Becker and Julie (Joe) King. Beloved grandpa to Miriam Rood, Elyse Rood, Tiffany Rogers, Christopher Rogers, Erica Lynch, Cameron King, Griffin King, Tucker King and Reagan King, and 2 great-grandchildren, Caleb and Anthony. Dr. Becker attended the University of Cincinnati Medical School and graduated in 1957. The day after he took his state boards, he and Mabel were married by Rabbi Brav and they headed to California. Louis interned at Los Angeles County General Hospital and returned for a residency at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. He entered the USAF in 1959 as a Captain at Barksville Air Force Base Hospital in Louisiana where he served for 2 years. He returned to Ohio with his growing family to enter Family Practice in Dayton, Ohio, where he served his patients for 32 years. Lou and Mabel lived in Trotwood, Ohio for 29 years and raised their 4 children there. HE LOVED HIS FAMILY DEARLY AND WAS PROUD OF THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. He also loved tennis and Florida, where the family made wonderful memories. After living 12 years as empty nesters, he and Mabel moved to New Albany, Ohio to live close to their grandchildren. He believed that all of his grandchildren were beautiful and gifted. Lou was on dialysis for many years and would, if he still could, remind everyone to consider being an organ donor. The family would like to thank the staff at the DaVita Dialysis Center on Olentangy River Road for the wonderful care they provided the past several years. They would also like to thank the staff and doctors at Riverside Methodist Hospital for the excellent care they provided to Louis in his most recent hospitalization and the many past ones. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm Monday, June 11, 2012 at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230 where family will receive friends from 12-1pm; interment Green Lawn Cemetery; Rabbi Howard L. Apothaker, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beth Shalom Temple, 5089 E. Johnstown Rd., New Albany, OH 43054 or to a charity of your choice, in memory of Dr. Becker.
