
Lydia Lape Stephan, 59, of Raleigh, North Carolina, died Saturday November 1, 2014. Lydia was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 2, 1955 and was the daughter of John K. Stephan and the late Virginia Lape Stephan. Along with her father, Lydia is survived by her brother John (Jay) K. Stephan, Jr (Vicky) and nieces Katelyn and Maureen of Columbus, Ohio. She was a graduate of Bexley High School, Southern Methodist University and Capital University School of Nursing. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and the Junior League of Columbus. Lydia worked as a Pediatric Transport Nurse for the last 26 years at University of North Carolina Health System in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Lydia will be especially missed by her “second family” of colleagues, past and present, at UNC Carolina Air Care, all whom shared in her life passion to treat and transport patients in need of care. Lydia selflessly dedicated herself to helping the children of North Carolina by serving as a trainer and mentor to nurses and in her role as a guardian ad litem. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 333 S. Drexel Ave., Bexley, OH, 43209. Private family interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg, OH. There will be a celebration of Lydia’s life in Raleigh on a date to be announced by the end of this year.
