Margaret F. Rockwood, age 87, passed on peacefully and with dignity in her home on August 23, 2011. She was born March 10, 1924 in Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter of the late Lois (Shouse) and Russell Fish. She attended Sweet Briar College and graduated with an English degree in 1946 from DePauw University, where she was a member of Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Margaret was a member of the Women’s Board of the Columbus Museum of Art (where she was instrumental in opening “The Palette”), the Women’s Board of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Preluders, Franklin Park Conservatory Women’s Board, Buckeye Boys Ranch Assisting Board, Upper Arlington Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Club, the Columbus Country Club and several bridge groups. Margaret and her husband Clyde R. Rockwood (“Rocky”) met at 16 and were married for 58 years until Rocky’s passing in 2005. With so much shared history, they were not only a loving and devoted couple, but shared a remarkable closeness that was evident to all who knew them. Throughout high school, college, years at Annapolis and several cross country career moves, they also developed many fast friendships that endured. As a proud and beloved mother and grandmother, nothing brought Margaret more joy than spending time with her family. Vacations at their family home on Sanibel Island were the source of particularly fond memories. Margaret was the beloved mother and grandmother to daughters Mary R. (Jim) Setterlin, Upper Arlington, and Margaret Anne Rockwood, Dublin, and grandchildren Elizabeth and Jimmy Setterlin, and Peter and Robby Gooch. The family wishes to thank Maggie Gable for the extraordinary care and loving companionship she gave to Margaret. Gratitude is also extended to Margaret’s other caregivers and to Heartland Hospice Care. The family welcomes friends 5:30pm-7:30pm Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL1740 Zollinger RD. A family service will be held the following day at the Liberty Presbyterian Church in Powell, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations to Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Dr., Norfolk, VA 23509, would be deeply appreciated. Visit www.schoedinger.com to share a favorite memory of Margaret.
