Margaret "Peg" Dorothea Vanderzee Stansbery passed away January 17, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born in Tarrytown, NY to the late George Boyle Vanderzee and Dagny Petersen in 1931. One of Margaret's greatest joys was teaching. She served in the Columbus City School District for 27 years and was a proud union member. She was a devout Christian and a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church for 40 years. In 1957 she, together with her husband Leslie E. Stansbery, attended the Ecumenical Institute in Geneva. This framed her global perspective and commitment to fight for the oppressed. She was quick to laugh, share her opinion, and loved sports. Peg treasured her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be missed by her husband of 60 years, Leslie Stansbery; sons Mark (Yoshie), Paul and Todd (Nancy) Stansbery; and a daughter Joy (Mike) Sickles. In lieu of flowers tax-deductible donations may be made to an endowment fund in the memory of Margaret D. Stansbery to promote education that has been established by a 501(c)(3) non-profit: the Community Organizing Center, 1101 Bryden Rd Columbus, OH 43205-1821.
Her family invites those who wish to celebrate her life to remember her on Saturday January 27th from 12pm until time service at 1pm at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church 1450 E Dublin Granville Road Columbus OH 43229.
