Marguerite Marshall, a beloved member of the Columbus, OH community, passed away December 29, 2023 in Columbus, OH at the age of 94. She is remembered as a steady pillar of strength with ageless vitality and radiance.
Marguerite J. (Konkel) Marshall was born in Milwaukee, WI April 22, 1929, to her parents Anna Marie Gurski Konkel and Joseph Roman “Joe” Konkel.
Marguerite, a licensed social worker, received her MSW (Masters of Social Work) at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. Her career in social work prepared her for her lifetime of volunteer service with many friends and acquaintances guiding them in life experiences both in her church, Hospice, and various other organizations. Her last employment as a social worker was for the Seton Square North retirement community.
She was a wise counsel and loving friend to all who knew her. She was an active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on Sharon Woods Boulevard, volunteering her time to festivals and other activities. She was very active in St. Vincent DePaul, Social Seniors and Homebound Ministry. As a lifelong member of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc (A.R.E.) she served in many capacities including Study Group Coordinator, Program Chair, Study Group Liaison to A.R.E. in Virginia Beach, and Prayer Coordinator. She served as a Board Member of Light in the Woods Unity Church in Worthington, OH.
She was known for her expertise in dream interpretation and served as facilitator of many dream groups in Central Ohio. She was an artist and a student of all art forms at the Gillie Senior Center in Columbus. Her eagerness to travel and learn, even into her 90’s, was an inspiration to many.
Marguerite is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth K. Marshall; her step-son, Kenneth Eric Marshall; her parents, Anna Marie and Joseph R. Konkel; her siblings, James Joseph Konkel, Rev. Fr. Joseph Konkel, and Beatrice Anne Konkel Seliger; and her niece, Karen A. Hale; and her nephew, David R. Seliger.
She leaves to cherish her memories of love and laughter, is survived by her step-daughters, Vonda K. Covington, Esq., and Karen Riback; her step-grandchildren, Zander, Barry and Becky, her 5 step-great-grandchildren, her 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; her nieces, Nancy B. Andrews, JoAnne M. (George) Beck, Janis H. Dyer, and Christine M. Seiser; her nephews, James H. (Tommye) Konkel, John Konkel, and Ronald J. (Sue) Seliger; and many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd, with Reverend Father Hilary Ike celebrating. A luncheon will follow mass. Please RSVP no later than April 16, 2024 to 614-570-0858 or [email protected] if you plan to attend.
Marguerite will be laid to rest next to her husband and with her family at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
