Mark
It's been a year.   Still so sad and Joyce and I think of you each day as we walk by your house.   We hear wrigley and aslan bark on your behalf inviting us in for a beer.  Missing pizza on Tuesday nights and true blood on Sunday nights.  I am doing my best to honor your memory and live with the same zest that you did but the grief is still so heavy.  You'd be proud of the neighborhood but it's still just brick and mortar without you.  I wish I could go back a year and two days when we talked last.   I would have said you were my hero in a lot of ways and that I loved you, my best friend.   Kenny B

     It's Linzo, just checking in. Where do I start and what do I say? I suppose I ought to just jump in.
     There are so many memories we made over the past thirty years. Since you moved into the Zorba House back in 1981, you have been a part of my life. Up until then, you were just one of my cousins. Over these three decades, you pulled me in time and again, including me in white water trips, cycling excursions, movies, other various and varied outings, and countless dinners. Over all those meals and drinks, we discussed politics, sports, movies, world events, books, people, places, history and more. And being your friend meant I got to meet plenty of interesting people along the way, some of whom became my own friends. You were just part of so many people's lives!   
     It was largely because of your intelligence, rude humor, cynicsm, extroversion, courage, toughness, campassion and having had similar struggles that I valued your friendship so much. You were never boring! And I must add how much I will miss your devilish grin that often foretold some mischief, as well as your goofiness and that unique laugh. I just wish I had been the friend to you that you had been to me. You were the one who put so much effort into our relationship time and again.
     I have been wondering to myself what I can take away from your death. After all, I cannot allow it to simply mean nothing. I cannot and should not merely grieve and then allow some level of normalcy to return. I am vowing to honor your memory by making positive changes in my own life. More specifically, I am hoping I can carry on your spirit by working harder and being: a better friend to others, a little smarter, more disciplined, more tolerant, and just a better person; but still be able to be a big kid too, putting my vanity in my back pocket! So, to simply aim to feel "normal" again in the coming days and months and years would be the wrong course. If I am living a full life and the right kind of life, it is because I do feel a bit uneasy always knowing full well that time for me, for all of us, is so fleeting.  
     Mark, I miss you so damn much already. You were the best friend I ever had and I loved you. I just hope you have found the peace you so wanted. Goodbye friend.

As a brother in law you were the best.  I miss your smile and your welcome whenever we came to visit.  I so appreciated your including Andrew and treating him as a surrogate son and spending time with him.  I always admired how you cared for all of your children and made no difference between Ian and Connor and Jordan.  That is not always easy to do and you were able to love all of them without reservation.  I will miss you and I know your children and my sister will miss you.  You were the person who brought fun and sponteneity into my sister's life.  She will miss that and so will I.  I will remember you always.

It has been almost a week since I heard the news, and I still find it hard to believe that you are no longer with us.  Your time at Nationwide over the past year and a half was a blessing to all of us.  As we shared memories last week, one description that resonated with me was that of "glue" - you are someone who brought people together, and connected us to you and to each other.  The laughter in the office will never be quite the same, with your wit and humor no longer there.  You'll be missed, Mark.  You already are.

I was very saddened to hear this.I knew Mark for a long time. He was always upbeat and positive with a smile.That will be missed, especially at the ACC. He was an energizing force at the Club. My prayers go out to all of his Family. God Bless!

But my memory of him as a boy and teen is very clear -- brilliant, witty, warm, with just the sort of irreverence that you appreciate as a kid and teen. Mark had a unbelievable compassion for all living things. Being a fellow dog lover, he would let me know about doggies and how much he loved them. But his compassion did not end with animals, It extended to the human race as well.

We spent the most time with Mark about 10 years ago, when Connor and Jordan were young teens.  Just like others who have commented, I found Mark easy to talk to and soon realized he was knowledgeable on any number of subjects.  What really struck me was what a good father he was.  Steve has such fond memories of coaching basketball with Mark in the Worthington Youth Boosters days. Several times he took 3-4 middle school boys camping, and Jordan sometimes joined them.  He realized that the boys needed more time in the woods, less time in front of the video games.  I always appreciated that since Steven was one of these lucky kids.  Mark had almost as much fun as the boys, but I know it wasn't always fun with the kids at that awkward age.  

He seemed to never meet a stranger.  While visiting us in South Carolina soon after we moved, he had a chance to meet some of our friends.  For 3-4 years after that these people would always ask “how's Mark doing”.   I can remember him with his hand outstretched saying Hi, I'm Mark Anderson.  You could just feel he was a genuinely nice man.  Even though we have not seen him in several years,  I cannot imagine the world without Mark in it.  My heart goes out to Barb, Ian, Connor and Jordan and his whole family.  I hope your memories of Mark will help you through these times of sorrow.

You don't know us, but my husband, Tim, is a distant cousin of Mark, and I am one of the lucky people who got to work with Mark at The Andersons one summer over 30 years ago.  Mark's presence in our department made for the most memorable and joyful experience of my ten years at The Andersons.  Our friendship was renewed at the weddings of Carol and Sam Anderson.  Just a year ago at Sam's wedding, Mark was so excited about his upcoming bicycle trip across Europe with Jordan.  Even though we've never met, it was obvious when talking to Mark that all of you were the best part of his life.  Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you.

Mark you were a character - in a good way. It has been over 45 years since I last talked to you; but I can still plainly hear your laugh and see your mischievous look. I'm smiling while tears are streaking down my face. You had a special way of connecting to people. 

Some of my fondest memories are from the Anderson families and the farm.You were an integral part of them.

 I'm sure you will find some good riding trails in heaven.

I spent so mamy weekends "at the farm" exploring every inch, swimming, playing basketball with Mark, Jim, Steve and Tony. I felt I was part of the family. I feel I have lost a brother. Hi Markoose,

I went out to the farm today just to soak up some of the memories of you - my precious brother. I sat on the dock listening to the echoes of laughter from long ago when you, with so many of our cousins, would play on the raft for hours. Your laugh was infectious. 

I also went through pictures and found an article you wrote for our newspaper, "Relatively Speaking." It was the article you wrote about your ski trip in 1989. I loved reading the article because it was full of your typical wit. It's going to be so hard to accept that you are gone. I keep thinking to myself that I'll call you about this or that only to realize that I can't any more.

Since Ross died, I have often thought that I have lost my son and I have lost my parents, and I dreaded ever losing a sibling. I thought that the time would be years from now til that happened. I know that you felt pain. I just wish you had known how special you were to all of us and to so many other people. I always looked up to you, and I will continue to look up to you. I hope that now you can see all of the thoughts that people have shared to know how loved you were and are. I'll miss you so much.

Marcus....our beloved friend and Potter's Creek neighbor of 20+ years....you will be missed, big time! So many memories...rafting on the Yough/Mount Buttmore, camping trips and your foil stew, many vacations - Alaska, Northern Michigan, Holiday Valley, Mammouth Cave. Indian guide chiefs, coaching youth sports teams together, Pancake Day. You were a true Renaisance man...rugged outdoorsman, avid cyclist, talented woodworker, yet had a taste for classical music and some serious skills in the kitchen. After 2 failed attempts at duplicating your amazing strawberry pie, you invited us to come early for a dinner party, and walked us through it step by step...we sort of got the hang of it, but it didn't hold a candle to your version. I've cried so much and I really need to laugh right now.  So I'm going to recall that time you visited me in NYC.  You, Kathy Connors (and Grax, I think), and I were taking a walk in Central Park - it would have been the late 1970's.  It was a cold Sunday morning.

I pointed out "Tavern on the Green" and told you that it was a very la-de-da restaurant.  Do you remember what you did?  You 'pressed ham' against the picture window!  I thought that woman was going to choke on her eggs benedict.  I also thought we'd get arrested.  That was so you!  I miss you so much.  Your sister, Farber

Losing Mark is unthinkable....he was an old soul and deep, humble, spirit.,,,a friend to us all.

My 6-year-old daughter & I followed Mark & Jordan's Euro adventure a few years ago....marveling in the special love between a father & daughter....plotting the day we would do the same. In my limited interactions with Mark in the last 2 years....I always asked a few more questions about that trip.  It left an impression on me (& daughter!)

Mark, I liked the fact that you were a little 'brother' to me at OHIC!  Thanx for the dial-up # to the inter-company phone system, so that I could broadcast comedy 'noises' over the company intercom . . . from my desktop phone . . . whenever I wanted!  It was awesome that after I left OHIC bound for Wolske & Blue, that forever after . . . you always called me . . . simply . . . 'Cy'.  Whenever I needed to hear a real belly laugh in life . . . I always just picked up the phone . . . called you . . . waited for your live answer, and then said:  "Mark, it's Cy Wolske!"  What was even funnier than that is whenever I'd answer my phone live, and it was you saying:  "Cy, it's Jason Blue!"  Thank you too for shooting a hole-in-one off the tee box, right in front of me and Beth.  The only one I've ever had the honor of witnessing!  Most of all, thanks for staying in touch from time-to-time all these years . . . including your wonderful idea of the annual ritual of Christmas lunch with Jon Wittington, Marci, you and me. When I think of my cousin Mark, I think of one of the kindest people I have ever known.  Always smiling, concerned for others, and really funny! I am so glad I got to see Mark just a few month's back at our Mom's funeral. It meant a lot to all of my family that he was there.
