

Mark was born on January 3, 1960 to Catherine M. (McCarthy) Barren and the late Daniel James Barren in Erie, PA.
Mark and his family moved to the Columbus area in 1976. Mark attended The Columbus Academy and graduated ‘78; he took a PG year at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, OH ’79. Mark then attended Wittenberg University and graduated ’83. Mark received his Masters Degree from The Ohio State University ’88.
Mark pursued a career in education and coaching. He was formerly a math teacher and head football coach at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. He has spent the last 18 years as a math teacher and coach at The Columbus Academy.
Although Mark was a successful coach, he is most proud of being a husband and father. Throughout his life and career, Mark was more than a teacher and coach, he was a life changing individual. Whether it was teaching or coaching, he was able to influence hundreds of young people in such a wonderful and powerful way that all of them are better individuals because of him.
Along with Mark’s father, he is also preceded in death by his father in law Dr. Jerry T. Bulford.
Mark’s survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Jennifer T. (Bulford) Barren of Worthington; sons James, David, and Andrew; mother Catherine Barren of Worthington; siblings, Mike (Winkie) Barren of Worthington, John (Jana) Barren of Gahanna, Brian (Kris) Barren of West Chester, Anne (Dan) Petit of Akron, Mary Lee (Barry) Sprung of Worthington; mother in law, Marie Bulford of Worthington, brother in law, David (Debbie) Bulford of VA. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Nick, Pat, Christine, Sarah, Danny, Katie, John, Billy, Brad, Maggie, Caroline, Jessica, Alyssa, and JonDavid.
The family will be receiving friends at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, OH on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the St. Michael Catholic Church, 5750 N. High St. Worthington, OH at 10:00am. A private family interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Mark Barren Memorial Fund at Huntington Bank for the continuing education of his three sons.
