

A celebration of life service for Marlene V. Garrabrant, 74, of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Criss Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville St., Newark, OH, with Pastor Barbara Sholis officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.
Marlene passed away at her home on Saturday, November 28, 2009 with her loving husband by her side. Marlene was born on July 15, 1935 in Newark, to the late Ernest O. and Mary E. Rector.
On May 20, 1956, Marlene married the love of her life, Walter J. Garrabrant. She was in the banking industry for almost 40 years, and had worked her way up to Vice President of Operations with Heartland Bank of Johnstown. Involved with the Eastern Star, and their charitable works since the early 1970’s; she was dedicated to the needs of others. A member of the Johnstown Chapter #242 which merged with the Wahneta Chapter # 235 and was elected Worthy Matron 9 times and was a Grand Representative of Ohio to Indiana, and held various other positions as well. Described by her family as being a loving and caring mother, she would lend a caring hand to anyone in need. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband survivors include her daughters, Susan Garrabrant of Florida, Sheryl (Jack) Stickradt of Newark, and Stacey (Keith) North of Johnstown; grandchildren, Nicholas Ghiloni, Bethany Stickradt, Jonathon Stickradt, Brandon North, and Trevor North. She is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made in her name to the American Heart Assoc.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:30PM to 7:30pm, an Eastern Star service will follow at 7:30pm.
