Martha Magdeline Montgomery

Martha Magdeline (Holland) Montgomery, 85, went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2013. She was born August 19, 1927 in Walnut Twp. to Charles Wesley and Eva (Thomas) Holland. Martha was the youngest of eleven children. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William, Thomas, Charles, John, David, Harold and an infant brother, Joseph; sisters, Genevieve, Ellen and Evelyn; Martha’s firstborn son, William Wesley; infant granddaughter, Amy Montgomery; and her best friend, Joanne VanGundy.

Martha married David Montgomery, Sr. on September 14, 1946. She is survived by her husband; her children, David (Sharon) Montgomery, Jr., Stephen (Shelby) Montgomery and Sue (Mike) VanFossen; six grandchildren, Michelle (Jeremy) Betts, Trent (Tonya) VanFossen, Leslie (Joe) Exconde, Devon (Matt) Hawk, Casey (Josh) Arledge and Kimberly Montgomery; eight great-grandchildren, Alexis and Caden VanFossen, Ava, Leah and Emma Exconde and Maddox, Kinley and Kole Arledge. Martha also leaves behind two step-great-grandchildren, Jacob Betts and Hannah Hawk; sister-in-law, Wilma Reeser; and many nieces and nephews.

Martha graduated from Walnut Twp. School and was a member of Morris United Methodist Church. She found great joy working in her flowers and keeping an immaculate home. Before losing most of her eyesight she enjoyed quilting and embroidery. She worked a few years for Sanese Vending Services at General Electric. Martha loved God, her family and had quite a soft spot for animals, especially her cats and birds. The family thanks the staff at Brown Memorial and Heartland Hospice for all the tender loving care given to our mom in these last few months and days. We leave her in God’s safe loving arms.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday.
