

Martha Nesbit “Marty” Robes, age 82, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, March 11, 2012. She was born in Boston, Mass., on December 28, 1929, to the late Merrill F. and Edna L. Ramsay. After graduating from Needham High School, Marty earned a degree from Green Mountain College in Vermont. Marty was proud to work as an administrative assistant in the Geology Department at M.I.T. She loved cooking and entertaining, and she enjoyed playing Bridge. Marty was a very caring and generous person, always concerned with the well-being of others. She will be especially remembered by her family at Christmas when they hang their annual personalized ornaments on the tree. She is survived by her children, Nancy (Les) McCoy and Paul (Donna) Robes; grandchildren, Ryan (Tiffany) McCoy, Scott McCoy, Adam (Jen Stinson) Hickernell, and Katie (Justin) Gartin; as well as many extended family members and friends, especially her lunchtime group at Feridean Commons where she was a resident for several years. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Merrilyn Lowd; and niece, Elizabeth Lowd Nyiri. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital for their wonderful care. A memorial service in honor of Marty will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., where family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
