

Mary Irene Almassey, 99, died at 4:15PM, Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor in Columbus, OH. She was born January 22, 1917 to the late Louis and Mary Elizabeth (Banhazy) Almassey in Wood River and lived there until 2007, when she moved to Gahanna, OH. While living in Wood River she was a longtime member of St. Bernard Catholic Church (now Holy Angels). Mary retired from Olin Corp., East Alton, after working for 38 years, as an inspector. She was a special Aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Survivors are her niece, Maribeth and husband, Richard Spicer of Gahanna, OH., and their sons, Rick Spicer of Delaware, OH., Patrick Spicer of Blacklick, OH., and Nick (Tara) Spicer of Lexington KY., and their two children, Avery and Gavin; nephew, William L. and wife Jan Haas of Long Beach, CA., and children Jacquie (Bob) Stiffler and their children Amber and RJ of Lakewood, CA., and Chris (Debbie) Haas of Redondo Beach, CA.; other nieces include, Mary Lou Harvey, East Alton, Phyllis Parkinson, Alton, and Mary Jean DeLarco, Bloomingdale, IL.; nephews, Richard (Bea) Almassey, Villa Park, IL., Jim (Donna) Almassy, Schaumburg, IL., Steve (Mary) Almassy, Los Gatos, CA., Perry (Nancy) Almassy, Bellingham, WA., and Bruce (Pam) McDuffy, Winchester, CA., and many other great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers; Alexander, Louis and Ernest Almassey and two sisters; Elizabeth Haas and Helen Fields. In accordance with her wishes, she is making an anatomical donation for research at the Center for Anatomical Science and Education at St. Louis University.
