Mary Elizabeth Bentley

Mary Elizabeth Bentley, age 95, passed away Friday, December 2, 2016. She was born August 26, 1921 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Jacob and Addie (Woolum) Chaffin. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and was a former employee at Vulcan Shoe Company and Scioto County Welfare Department. She was a member of Central Church of Christ and was a greeter there for many years. Mary was an avid reader and was a part of many book clubs over the years. She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon Bentley; and brother, Ralph Chaffin. Mary is survived by her niece, Patricia (Bill) Chaffin Hafer; great-niece, Abbe (Jason) Raabe; great-nephew, Joshua (Cindy) Hafer; great-great-nephews, Logan, William, and Greyson Raabe; great-great-niece, Brynn Hafer; and special friend, Patricia Perdue. A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Scioto Burial Park, 4757 McDermott Pond Creek Rd., McDermott, Ohio 45652. Mary had a great love for animals.
