It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Alice Brown announces her passing on September 21, 2018 at the age of 87. Mary's formative years were spent immersed in farm life with her parents, Robert and Alice Lewis, and her siblings, Betty, Dick, Leah, Irma, Bill, Jo, and Carol. She graduated from West High School in Columbus, married, and raised her own family. In 1981 with her youngest a senior in high school, she entered college, earning both a Bachelors and Master's degree at The Ohio State University, where she later taught English. She later passionately taught English as a second language to dozens of senior citizens from China. A lover of life, of family, reading and of writing, political philosophy and of the United States, Mary brought many decades of joy, caring, deep thought, and humor to those blessed to be part of her life. As a child, she "climbed trees like a monkey." As a teen she independently decided to convert to Catholicism. She always lived her own life. Mary's legacy of love and indelible mark upon our lives will be fondly remembered by her surviving siblings, Irma Fenstermaker and spouse, Paul, Jo Rickett, and Carol Lewis-Smith; her children, Paul Brown with spouse Kaydeann and children, Jessica Panagopoulos and spous,e Tom, Jodiann, Shaquille, Sufiyyah, and John-Paul, Tim Brown and spouse, Wanda Stearns, Mary Anne Brown-Schwart with son, Josh and spouse, Jay Schwart, Mark Brown and partner, Sherri Rea, Paddy Shaffer with spouse, Brad and daughters, Jenny and Samantha, Kathy Brown and son, Spencer, and Rich Brown with spouse, Anna and Rich's children, Dan, Holly, and Emily. Mary also had three great grandchildren, Tyler, Isla, and Lily. Quick to laugh, never a gossip, always more worried about others than herself, "Mom" will be missed. But she leaves us via her faith in God that her next adventure has arrived. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 2 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road in Upper Arlington. A Mass of Christian burial will also be celebrated in memory of Mary at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Road, Upper Arlington.
