

Mary Thompson Lacher (aka Miriam), an accomplished teacher and singer, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2018 at the age of 85. She was born October 23, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio to William C. Lacher and Evelyn Ramondelli Lacher; also preceded in death by her husband Edgar Fletcher Thompson and her brother William "Geno" Lacher. Mary graduated with a BS in Music in 1968 from Mannes College of Music, NYC and earned a Master's degree at Hofstra University in 1971 where she won the Brosky prize for highest scholarship. She was a singer on Broadway, New York City Center, Summer Stock in NY, NJ and PA and Opera in NY. Mary also was a soloist with churches and temples in NYC and Long Island, sang with Opera Columbus and Grandparents' Theater, was an instructor with Columbus Parks and Recreation. She was a member of Congregation Beth Tikvah, Shironim, Kolenu, Hadassa and National Council of Jewish Women. Mary is survived by her sisters Rita Thomas (Dean A. - deceased) of Columbus and Nancy (John) Sommer of Hudson, Ohio; special nieces Julie Sommer and Anne McElroy along with numerous other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. (Private family viewing 10-11am). Family will welcome friends from 11am to 12pm Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230 where the funeral service will begin at 12pm; entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio.
