Dear Mike and Keesha,

I am very sad and glad to be writing to you tonight.  We are so very sorry to learn of the passing your mother.   It is a strange turn of events that brought me to writing this note.  Little did I know, that the most influential professor I had in 6 years of studies at OSU was your mother.  I never put the pieces together until now.  My brother, who also studied under your mother, told me of her passing and said that I could look up her page and leave a note.  So, this afternoon I came to this webpage and decided to watch the video.  Midway through the video I was shocked to see your wedding photo.  I sat here in complete silence for many minutes trying to piece everything together.  What a shame it is that all this time, I could've told your mother what an influence she was on me.  She single handedly changed my life, my husband's life, my children's lives, and their future children's lives through what she taught me.  I loved her intelligence and her clarity in teaching and her kindness.  I just liked her as a person, as well as a teacher.  It will have to be enough that I can tell you now, what your mother meant to me.  Additionally, when you are feeling up to it, can you please make contact with me. Dr.Mitchell is the reason I am the professional I am today. Her great heart and mentoring gave me a chance to learn, grow and share with others. I'm so sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful woman, teacher, mentor and friend.

I have known Kay for many years.  She was a Registered Dietitian and an excellent nutrition educator whose many, many students have a sound, science-based nutrition education on which they have built their dietetic practice.  I know these last years have been difficult and I send my thoughts and prayers as you deal with this loss.

Kay was a wonderful nutrition educator who will be greatly missed.  There are but such a few who really lived the level of work - life balance like she did.  My condolences go out to those left behind.... until they meet her again.

Dr. Mitchell had tremendous influence on me as an undergraduate. She is the reason I found myself at Case Western for my graduate work. She's been an important part of my path to a professional. I wish her family much peace during a difficult time.

Dr. Kay Mitchell was an extraordinarily demanding educator who motivated her students to see the whole picture, and to think outside-of-the-box as well.  I treasure my memories as one of those students.

Oh my gosh! There aren't enough words to express the wonderful memories I have had with Kay! I cleaned for her and Irv for a lot of years. I used to take all three of my kids with me, and Kay and Irv loved them! In fact, they have always just loved kids! I always pray that I can be half as good of a grandparent to my grandchildren that they have been to theirs. I had a lot of good laughs with Kay over the years over numerous things. She was fun and witty. I loved her sweetness, and the love of her family and everything about her. She was a brilliant lady and very dedicated to her work and she was so professional. I remember many mornings when I was there cleaning, that she left with her briefcase in hand and on her way to play golf before going to the office. She was so thoughtful of others; We both shared the same love for Michigan and had many great conversations about our vacations there. Kay and Irv had the most beautiful love story, and I love how devoted Irv was through it all for many years; the perfect example of how a husband should be. This is how it is supposed to be. They have been such a perfect example for all families to follow. What a heritage! The one thing that stands out the most is that she was a wonderful writer. She was one of my biggest inspirations when I wrote my own book, after my cancer diagnosis, and I dedicated my book to her. When I got the text from Mike that his mom had passed away, I stopped and cried. After wiping away my tears, I realized how very much this special lady will be missed by all who knew her!!!! I love you Kay! As for Irv, Doug, Mike, Jean, and all of the family, I love your beautiful family! I am praying for all of you. You will go on because this is your family. You will go on to live out your lives and go on doing all that your beautiful parents have modeled for all of you! What a legacy!!!
