

Mertice L. Walker of Dublin, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016, 25 days shy of her 100th birthday. Mertice was born and raised in Owatonna, Minnesota, daughter of the late William and Marion Ditlevson. Also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ross Walker and sisters, Arline Schrader and Wilma Ditlevson. Mertice graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. Upon graduation she worked for 10 years as a social worker with an adoption agency in St. Paul, Minnesota. Mertice was an independent, vibrant and outgoing woman. When she walked in to a room, she easily made friends with all and connected people together. While in Minnesota, Mertice was active in many community organizations as well as her church. She greatly enjoyed caring and playing with her grandchildren, they were the light of her life, gardening, bowling, golf, and a great cup of coffee. She will be deeply missed by her children, Bill Walker and Lorrie (James) Smiley; grandchildren, Jonathan (Tiffany) Smiley and Tanne Walker; cousin, Verna Morrison; and dear friends. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 4:30 P.M. Thursday, June 2, 2016 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where family will receive friends from 3:30 P.M.
